Welcome to Your Level 2 Personal Licence Holder (APLH) Training Course

About This Course

This course is designed to give you a solid understanding of the legal responsibilities and best practices involved in selling or authorising the sale of alcohol in England and Wales. It’s ideal for anyone looking to become a designated premises supervisor (DPS) or apply for a personal licence to sell alcohol.

Regulated Qualification

This is a regulated qualification accredited through Laser Awards, a UK-based awarding organisation. They’re regulated by Ofqual and licensed by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and listed on the UK government’s official register of qualifications. Once you pass the exam, your certificate will be nationally recognised and accepted by all local licensing authorities across England and Wales — an essential requirement when applying for your personal alcohol licence.

You will have 12 months from the date your exam logins are sent, to take your exam. After this time, your exam access will expire.

What Happens Next

You can start the training immediately — there’s no need to wait.

Within 3 working days of purchasing the course, you’ll receive an email with your login details to access the regulated multiple-choice exam via Laser Awards.

Important: Even though your exam login details will be sent shortly after purchase, you must complete the full course before attempting the exam.
You must pass the regulated exam to receive your official APLH qualification certificate.

Your course materials will remain available for 12 months from the date of purchase. You can read through the content as many times as you like during that time — ideal for refreshing your knowledge or preparing for your exam at your own pace.

Final Steps to Get Your Personal Licence

After passing the exam:

  1. Apply to your local council for your personal licence.

  2. You will need to submit:

    • A Disclosure of Convictions and Declaration form

    • Two passport-style photographs (one endorsed)

    • Proof of your right to work in the UK

    • The appropriate application fee (usually £37)

Visit your local council’s website for application instructions or contact their licensing department directly.

Important: You must hold a regulated APLH qualification to apply for your personal licence.
