How old do I need to be to take this course?
You must be at least 16 years old to take the Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment. This is because the qualification is designed for those entering the construction industry, where 16 is the minimum age for most entry-level roles.
When can I start the course?
You can start immediately after purchase. There’s no need to wait.
How is the course structured?
The course content is split into individual sections, each concluding with an end-of-section assessment. All sections and assessments must be completed to receive your certificate.
What ID do I need?
You must have a valid photo ID, such as a passport, driving licence, or provisional licence, to verify your identity before starting the exam.
What happens if I fail the assessment?
If you do not achieve a passing score, you may retake the assessments as many times as necessary at no additional cost.
What happens when I pass my course?
Once you pass your course, you’ll receive your official qualification certificate download. If you’re taking the Level 1 Health & Safety in a Construction Environment, you can then book and pass the CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) touchscreen test. After completing both, you’ll be able to apply for your Green Labourer CSCS Card to work on construction sites.

After passing your regulated exam:

Apply for your Green Labourer CSCS Card via the official CSCS website: https://www.cscs.uk.com/card-type/labourer/
Submit the required documents:
Your regulated qualification certificate
Proof of identity (usually a passport or a driving licence)
Pay the £36 application fee (may vary slightly depending on the council or method of payment).
Important: This course is mandatory to get your Green Labourer CSCS Card. Both the regulated qualification and the CITB touchscreen test are required to successfully apply for your Green Labourer CSCS Card.
How long is my certificate valid?
You do not need to retake the course once you’ve successfully completed it, as the certificate itself does not expire.

Is there a time limit on this course?
The exam must be passed within 12 months of them being assigned the course. There is no time limit on the course material, so once the exam has been passed, students can freely revisit the course content and refresh their knowledge.

Section Two: Construction Site Safety and Risk Management
Common hazards found on construction sites (e.g. slips, trips, falls, electricity, machinery)
Introduction to COSHH: Identifying and working safely with hazardous substances
The correct use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Fire safety awareness: Evacuation plans and emergency procedures
Fire detection and fire-fighting equipment
Working safely at height: risks, equipment and precautions
First aid procedures and emergency response roles
