Tesco has recalled its Free From Golden Syrup Porridge Pot (in England Scotland and Wales) because it contains milk which is not mentioned on the label. This means that the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.
The affected product is in a 55g pack size, the batch code is 2252, and the product is marked best before 1 September 2023.
Tesco is recalling the above product from stores and has been advised to contact the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a recall notice to its customers. The notice explains to customers why the product is being recalled and tells them what to do if they have bought the product.
If you have bought the above product and have an allergy or intolerance to milk, or milk constituents (lactose) do not eat it. Instead, return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund. No proof of purchase is required.
Lactose intolerance is the inability to digest lactose, the sugar that is found in milk and dairy products. It is caused by a shortage of lactase in the body. Lactase is enzyme produced by the small intestine. For most people, lactose intolerance develops over time as the body produces less lactase. Lactose intolerance is most likely to be age related and occurs mostly with advancing age.
While lactose intolerance is not dangerous, its symptoms can be distressing.
The signs and symptoms of lactose intolerance usually begin from 30 minutes to two hours after eating or drinking foods that contain lactose.

None of these present a serious health risk and symptoms will usually disappear within an hour, but if you have reason for concern, you should consult your GP.
